Overall Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐️☆☆☆ (7/10)
If you’re exploring beaches in Northern Samar and hoping to find a spot that’s family-friendly, Langtaran Grove White Beach Resort Catarman Northern Samar might be worth considering. It’s not the most relaxing (and budget-friendly) spot for adults, but it has its own charm—especially if you come prepared.
Arrival & Check-In Experience
We’ll admit it—we were way too early. Check-in is at 2:00 PM, and we arrived around 10 AM. But we were coming from Catbalogan City, over 4 hours away. With the hot weather and a big group, we really didn’t want to brave the heat and be late.
Still, there was no reception area or waiting space. Well, there was. When we arrived, we were literally at the entrance of the resort with a few chairs available for us. Because of this, we had to rent a cottage for ₱1,000 and pay an entrance fee of ₱30 per person just to have a place to sit and rest while waiting.
It was a bit frustrating. After such a long trip, many of us were tired and just wanted to relax or nap. It would’ve made a big difference if there was at least a shaded common area for early arrivals—especially for families traveling from far away.
Accommodation: Okay for Groups, But Know the Costs
We traveled as a group of 27—15 adults, 9 kids under 10, and 4 toddlers. We booked two rooms good for 16. Everyone was accounted for, but there were a few surprises:
- Kids aged 3 and up were charged ₱300 each—even just for staying in the room.
- That’s rare; most places or hotels we went to let younger kids under 7 stay for free.
The upside? They provided beds, towels, and blankets for every extra paying guest.
Heads up: If you’re booking for a big group, do the math. It can get expensive quickly.
Room notes:
- No electric kettle or hot water
- You can get hot water at the front desk—but only if you bring your own cup. Take note, front desk.
- Disposable hot water cups cost ₱5 each
- Water is from a deep well, so expect a metallic/iron smell when bathing or washing

Outdoor Areas: Fun for Kids, Limited for Adults
This is the strong point of Langtaran Grove White Beach Resort—especially for families with younger children.
✅ Plenty of space to run and play
✅ Sand everywhere, playpen and traditional games
✅ Safe and open layout
For kids, it’s a great spot to burn off energy.

But for adults hoping to rest, the experience is less appealing. We had a cottage, but the better huts near the beach cost ₱400 to rent, even if you’re staying overnight.
We tried to use one briefly when it was empty—but staff asked us to leave.
It would’ve been great to have free hammocks or shaded lounging areas just to listen to the waves and enjoy the breeze. Instead, we mostly stayed inside or in basic seating.
Food & Cooking: BYO Everything
The resort has a restaurant, but for a group of 27, it wasn’t practical price-wise.
There’s a grilling station, but you need to bring:
• Your own cookware
• Charcoal
• Purified water
Because of the deep well water (with that distinct smell), we opted to buy several gallons of drinking water instead of using what was available onsite.
Getting There: Long Drive, Mixed Payoff
We drove from Catbalogan—nearly four hours. The view along the way was lovely, but honestly, the overall experience didn’t quite justify the travel.
If you live nearby, it might be more worth it. For us, it was too much effort for a “just okay” stay.
Final Thoughts: Is It Worth It?
Langtaran Grove White Beach Resort Catarman Northern Samar is best if:
✔️ You’re from the area or nearby
✔️ You’re traveling with active kids
✔️ You plan ahead—meals, water, rest, and all
✔️ You’re a solo traveler
It’s one of those Northern Samar beach resorts where the kids will have fun, but adults might feel more like logistics coordinators than vacationers.
What I Wish They Had
- Hammocks or beach loungers for guests
- A more lenient policy for families with toddlers
- A bit more comfort for adults who just want to enjoy the beach
Even a shaded common area or a shared beachfront lounge would’ve made a big difference.
Will We Go Back?
Probably not.
It wasn’t bad—but the travel time, extra charges, and lack of real relaxation made it feel more stressful than restful.
Bottom Line
Langtaran Grove White Beach Resort is a decent option among beaches in Northern Samar if you’re coming from nearby and mainly focused on giving the kids room to play.
But if you’re looking at Northern Samar beach resorts hoping for a stress-free, chill experience—you’ll need to plan ahead and manage your expectations.
Plan smart. Bring what you need. And maybe have a backup plan—just in case.
